Heating and cooling, repaired and replaced in Lancaster, PA
Heating and cooling for Lancaster County houses, sized from a Manual J load calculation rather than from whatever came out. Ducts measured, static pressure recorded, and the refrigerant charge set on the gauges instead of by feel.

Questions
Before you call
-
The old unit was four tons. Should the new one match?
Not automatically. Most replacements around here are oversized, which short-cycles the compressor and leaves the humidity up in July. The load calculation settles it either way.
-
Will a heat pump hold up in a Lancaster winter?
In most houses, with the balance point set correctly and the strip heat locked out above it. We show the capacity at design temperature so you can see exactly where the backup starts to carry the load.
-
Why do you keep talking about static pressure?
It is the resistance the blower is fighting. Much above half an inch of water column the airflow falls off, the coil ices and the compressor pays for it. It takes ten minutes to measure.
-
Do you offer a maintenance agreement?
Two visits a year, one heating and one cooling, with the readings recorded each time. You do not need to hold one to get service from us.
-
Can you work on the system somebody else installed?
Yes. We start by measuring what it is doing now, which on a system that was never commissioned is the only way to know what is actually wrong with it.
How it works
From the call to the invoice
-
Step 01
Measure the house
Room-by-room load calculation, duct static and the pressure drop across the filter, all before any equipment is discussed.
-
Step 02
Size and quote
Model numbers, capacity at the local design temperature, and what has to change in the ductwork to actually deliver it.
-
Step 03
Install and commission
Line set brazed with nitrogen flowing, system evacuated to 500 microns and held, charge weighed in and then verified running.
-
Step 04
Hand over the numbers
The commissioning sheet — static, temperature split, subcooling and superheat — is yours at the end, so the next person to open the unit knows where it started.
Services
What we get called out for
- System replacement
-
Equipment chosen off a room-by-room load calculation and matched to the duct system that is actually in the house.
- Manual J
- Manual S selection
- Line set
- Duct work
-
Undersized returns and nine tenths of an inch of total external static are why the last system died early. We measure before quoting equipment.
- Static pressure
- Return sizing
- Sealing
- Heat pumps
-
Cold-climate heat pumps set up with a real balance point and the auxiliary heat locked out above it, so the strips are not running all winter.
- Balance point
- Aux lockout
- Defrost check
- Service and repair
-
Charge verified by subcooling and superheat against the manufacturer chart, not topped up until the gauge looks right.
- Subcooling
- Superheat
- TXV checks
- Furnace maintenance
-
Combustion analysis, draft check and a camera inspection of the heat exchanger, with the readings written down so drift shows up next year.
- Combustion analysis
- Draft
- Heat exchanger
- Filtration and airflow
-
MERV 13 without strangling the blower, which usually means a deeper filter cabinet rather than a thicker filter in the old slot.

- Pressure drop
- Ventilation
